Why Should You Become A Conductor?
Good salary. Your starting may be £24000 rising up to 35000 after passing your probation. There after you could earn up to £42000 by doing overtime. If you are commercial guard you earn up to £46000. These kinds of salary aren’t usually for front line staff in other industries.
Less paper work. You don’t get stuck in an office or cubicle with a lot of reports to do. All you have to do is read your weekly operating notices (WON), periodical operating notices (PON) and carry your keys for operating the train before you book on. You will usually book on with train crew manager.
Solid All Round Railway Experience. The Conductor role offers you the experience on train operation, safety and customer services. You will come into contact with train drivers who have recently passed the train driver psychometric tests. Pension. You get an excellent railway pension. The earliest you can take your pension is 55 years. Roughly about 8 per cent of your salary is taken for the pension and your employer match it by topping it up.
